Alongside the castle walls is Casa Trafalgar – a Moorish townhouse centered around a traditional courtyard in the old town of Vejer de la Frontera. Thought to have been originally built over a millennium ago, the house retains many Moorish features. Each room is accessed individually off the courtyard and via outside corridors and stairs on upper levels – a typical architectural feature of historic houses in the white Andalusian village with great views of the Atlas mountains.

The rooms are cozy with smooth undulating whitewashed walls following the contours of the mountainside into which the house was built. Moorish arches and small alcoves previously home to oil-burning lamps, are scattered amongst the rooms. In a previous life, the house was home to a cobbler, 18 family members as well as a donkey, and some goats who made their home in the cave.

In the courtyard on the ground floor is a shaded dining area, off of which is the entrance, cave, kitchen, bathroom, and utility room.
